The Nagaland State Co-operative Marketing & Consumers’ Federation Ltd. popularly known as MARCOFED was registered as an Apex Level Co-operative organization in the state vide Regd. No. NL/0222 Dt. 17-08-1968 under the sponsorship of the Govt. of Nagaland with its H.O. at Dimapur.

The management of MARCOFED vests its power, policies and programmes with the guidance and control of the Board of Directors which are constituted/nominated by the Registrar of Co-operative Societies, Govt. of Nagaland. The Board of Directors lays down policy guidelines headed by Chairman appointed by the Government, who is an elected member of Legislative Assembly and the management is headed by Managing Director who is assisted by Executive Director and experts in various disciplines.

     MARCOFED functions through its Head Office in Dimapur, Nagaland with 2 (Two) Branch Offices as MARCOFED LPG Service at Kohima and Phek district. Also there are Marketing Godowns and commercial buildings located in Tuensang, Mon, Pfutsero, Phek, Medziephema, Jalukie, Wokha and in and around Dimapur District.

MARCOFED is essentially a non-equity based promotional organization created exclusively for promoting post-harvest programmes namely production, processing, storage go-down, marketing of agricultural produce, foodstuff and other essential commodities on co-operative principle. It also functions as state/central agency for handling and distribution of agricultural produce and other essential commodities as and when appointed /entrusted.

Performances & Activities under Revamping Programme:

     The State Government in order to revamp MARCOFED has invested a total of Rs. 21 Crores from the year 2008-09 till 2013-14. With the financial assistance received from the State Government, MARCOFED has been able to take up numerous programmes to strengthen its existing infrastructure and reviving those assets rendered dormant in the past due to severe financial constraints. MARCOFED is also developing assets in areas where it can provide a much needed service to growing demands of the public by taking into account the economic and commercial viability of the region. The newly constructed Market complex at Dimapur, Medziephema, Tuensang and MARCOFED buildings at Mon Town are some such examples of helping meet those demands.

     Another outstanding example of public service is the MARCOFED LPG Service at Kohima and Phek, where over 13,500 customers are enrolled at Kohima and 2,800 customers at Phek achieving an annual business turnover of Rs. 4.15 Crores (approx).

     The business of Ice factory of 12 MT capacity located at Signal Basti, Dimapur is also operating quite successfully and achieving an annual business turnover of Rs. 8.00 Lakhs.
